4 Ways Your Handbag Can Make Your Life (And Your Summer) Easier

Sometimes we fall for the wrong handbags. They look so handsome at first and they promise so much to us. But after a while they start becoming less reliable. They start making us frustrated. They lose our keys. They don’t carry our books for us. And soon it’s time to break up.

Here’s what to look for to find the perfect handbag. Because the bag that holds all our stuff should be a good one.

  1. A lightweight bag with an across-chest strap can save you a lot of back & shoulder pain during active days.

I used to carry around a huge leather shoulder bag that was really bulky. “It carries so much stuff!” I said. “It looks so cool!” I said. But after a while, I started to notice that my left shoulder hurt. And then my neck. And then my back. And eventually I decided that I wasn’t into the idea of getting significant back pain. I switched over to a smaller bag that looped around my shoulder for a more even distribution of weight, and like magic, my days of recurring back pain were gone.

2. Only bring what you need and prevent the “Bottomless bag” search by sticking with a smaller, compartmentalized purse.

Taking the doggy on a trail run? Don’t bog yourself down. By sticking with a purse that not only slings around your shoulder but only holds what you need for the occasion, you won’t be weighted down and you’ll be able to keep up with the energetic doggies.

3. A good weekender bag will take the pain out of packing (and unpacking).

It’s been a running theme in my life that whenever I take a weekend trip, I begin with a nice and neat bag with perfectly folded clothes and everything in it’s place. At the end of the weekend, it’s like a tornado hit. (Maybe throwing EVERYTHING in my purse isn’t the best way to go.) This Vintage 1934 Canvas Bag is perfect for weekend trips because of the extra pockets. No more “Where is my toothbrush!” “Where is my mascara!” Everything in it’s place.

4. Free up those hands, girl. Get yourself a library/book store/farmer’s market tote.
